In 2019, he discussed plans to launch a robotaxi fleet using Tesla vehicles that people had leased and then returned. Musk has also talked about a robotaxi service with decentralized ownership, in which Tesla owners could rent out their cars for fares. Amazon subsidiary Zoox has said it has authorization from Nevada to operate a robotaxi service, which hasn't launched.
